Handy documentation when developing with ArchGenXML.

I got a question about ArchGenXML documentation, apparently it is pretty hard to find a real handy short introduction. The resources I'd like to recommend are the following. The ArchGenXML documentation area in general gets additions from time to time, so that's a place to watch.

Tutorial
ArchGenXML - Getting started . Still the main resource for learning most there is to know about ArchGenXML. It is a big tutorial, so it is easy to miss things. Also it is really missing images. Words can only tell you a limited story. Room for improvement here (note to self). Some especially handy pages:
  • Workflow generation, including an image :-)
  • Tagged value and stereotype overviews. Essential reading. Just browse through this list and you get an idea of the special things that ArchGenXML supports. It'll stick in your subconcious memory for when you need it.
ATContentTypes subclassing
How to subclass ATCT tells you how to subclass plone's default content types like News, File, Image, Page, Folder. Real handy, real timesaver.
Introduction video
Get your feet wet with plone shows you how to set up zope and plone and how to develop content types with ArchGenXML.

A second video that's good to watch is Better web apps that compares plone, ruby on rails, j2ee and some others. ArchGenXML isn't mentioned, but in the final showdown, plone content types are generated from UML, giving plone a hidiously good overall score. Taken with a grain of salt, it is great to watch.

Online support
If you want support, there are two main ways. IRC and mailinglists. IRC is a great way to get support. I recommend the #plone channel over the #archetypes channel, #plone is much more active. For the mailinglists, the "Archetypes Users list" is better than the "Plone Users list", as plone.user has much more activity. Your post is more likely to be noticed on archetypes.user.

The addresses are on the plone support page. (Note that I subscribe to the mailinglist using gmane instead of actual mails).
